The Spirit Movie Teaser Trailer

This weekend at New York Comic Con, writer, artist, & now director, Frank Miller, unveiled his trailer to the film version of the classic, yet little known, Will Eisner character, The Spirit.

At this teaser, all I can I say, I'm extremely disappointed.
When I first heard that Frank Miller was directing, I was worried because the way Sin City & 300 were filmed.
While these films are OK, the style is not good for the Spirit.
The Spirit is more light & airy then Miller's darker style.
As I can't fully judge until I see the full trailer, I'm currently extremely unhappy.
And really want to slap around Miller.
Even some of the Spirit's darkest stories, have never been Miller grim.
That cheezy TV movie with Sam Jones was more true to the original material than this.
What really doesn't make sense that in the book "Eisner/Miller", Miller seems to get the Spirit.
I guess not.
I understand we are modernizing the Spirit a little but this is ridiculous.
Miller should have read Darwyn Cooke's run on The Spirit.
Cooke was able to modernize The Spirit without destroying the original material.
But the really sad part is, I'm still going to pay to see this movie.
Will Eisner is turning over in his grave. Read more...

Transformers Spring 2008 Toys R Us Exclusives

These Movie Ultra Figures are beginning to arrive at Toys R Us now!

Movie Exclusive UltraThese figures, JETSTORM and WINGBLADE are available in May, but some quantities have already started to arrive at Toys R Us stores.Although color treatments on these figures were not intended as direct representations of original G1 characters, their color schemes do reflect those of two rival G1 triple-changers—Octane and Springer.

JETSTORM
This figure is loosely inspired by the AC-130 Spectre gunship that appears in the SCORPONOK battle scene at the beginning of the TRANSFORMERS movie. The more direct inspiration for this toy’s jet mode is the Russian An-225 Mriya aircraft. The Mriya was used to transport the Russian space shuttle and, by a complete design fluke, Classics ASTROTRAIN can be attached to JETSTORM by its front landing gear.

WINGBLADE
WINGBLADE takes its deco inspiration from the A-10 Warthogs that appear in the TRANSFORMERS movie. Because both jets in this exclusive assortment were based on real-life jets that are predominantly gray, each character’s colors were chosen to contrast the other’s colors. Wingblade is a greenish “Alfalfa” gray where Jetstorm is a cool gray, and their secondary colors are on opposite ends of the color wheel.

Exclusive Movie Voyager

This assortment of 2 Voyager-scale TRANSFORERS action figures will be available in late May early June.

INFERNO
INFERNO’s name and deco are taken from the G1 character of the same name and Movie RATCHET’s red and white pre-production color scheme. G1 Micromaster Tote—a red and gray van—was another influence in initial color selection.

MUDFLAP
This MUDFLAP concept began with the name SAWTOOTH and an abandoned redeco color scheme from the TRANSFORMERS: CYBERTRON line. The name was unfortunately unavailable, and the concept colors weren’t convincingly realistic for a modern construction vehicle. Although a DECEPTICON, the inspiration for his construction-yellow and bone-white colors came from the G1 Micromaster AUTOBOT crane Erector.

Unleash the Force with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Battle Rancor with Felucian Rider and Saddle

A disturbance in the Force has once again taken shape with the emergence of a new twist on the legendary struggle between the dark side and the light side. With the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game, you become Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice, stealthily traveling the galaxy on a mission handed down by Darth Vader himself.

The new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Battle Rancor with Felucian Rider introduces the Felucians, native inhabitants of the jungle planet Felucia. These Force-sensitive warriors have learned to tame deadly rancors and ride them into battle. This fearsome figure and creature combo is accurate to the videogame and includes a hidden code to be used in the game. The decision to carry out the Dark Lord’s will may be a difficult on in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but collecting the Rancor with rider is not!

Battle Rancor with Felucian Rider and Saddle

The Force-sensitive Felucians patrol their jungle homeworld astride ferocious rancors that are marked with luminous warpaint. Together, a Felucian warrior and his rancor mount pose a formidable threat to even the most skilled Sith warrior. Felucia is heavily forested with fungal life forms and immense primitive plants that can be dangerous when disturbed. As one of the planets caught in the Clone Wars, Felucia becomes a battleground between opposing sides, pulling the native Felucians into the midst of the conflict.

Rancors are savage creatures that have been domesticated by the Felucians and other species in the galaxy. Only those who are attuned to the Force can successfully tame these menacing monsters. Even when tamed, a rancor can be unpredictable and must be treated with caution and respect.

The new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Battle Rancor with Felucian rider and saddle will bring a new level to the intricate story that keeps unfolding to reveal the power that exists within the dark side of the Force.

Climb on board a savage rancor, strap yourself in and be prepared for an action packed ride available at Target.

May the Force be with you and stay tuned for more information from Hasbro! Read more...

DC COMICS & SIERRA ENTERTAINMENT TO PUBLISH NEW COMIC SERIES BASED ON PROTOTYPE VIDEO GAME

DC Comics and Sierra Entertainment Ink Deal To Create an All-New Comic Book Series Based on PROTOTYPE™ – One of the Most Anticipated Video Games of 2008

DC Comics, the largest English language comic book publisher in the world, and Sierra Entertainment – a division of Vivendi Games, today announced plans to publish an all-new comic book series based on the eagerly anticipated and already highly acclaimed open-world/action video game PROTOTYPE™. The series is set to debut this August via DC’s WildStorm imprint, and the addition of such unique, original IP video games like PROTOTYPE is sure to increase their successful line of best-selling comics based on licensed properties. Further details surrounding the new comic book series will be announced later this year.

PROTOTYPE puts gamers in control of Alex Mercer – a genetically mutated shape-shifter with no memory of his past hell-bent on solving the mystery of his existence – as he tears through a densely populated New York City moving with Parkour-style fluidity and consuming anybody that gets in his way…assuming their physical identity, memories and abilities. Fueled by a three way war between Alex, the military and its elite Blackwatch division, and a viral outbreak known as the Infected, players will venture deep into a dark conspiracy 40 years in the making.

“PROTOTYPE is all about shape-shifting action, and we’re using that key element to redefine the open-world game space,” said Al Simone, Sr. VP of Global Marketing, Sierra Entertainment. “Another key feature setting PROTOTYPE apart from other open-world games is its incredibly deep, conspiracy-based back-story, and by joining forces with the largest comic book publisher in the world – DC Comics – we can bring this new anti-hero and his tale to an even wider audience of comics fans and gamers alike.”

“We’re blown away with what Sierra and developer Radical Entertainment have shown us of PROTOTYPE, and know with absolute certainty that this will make for a terrific comic book,” said Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager, WildStorm. “PROTOTYPE’s back-story, visuals and gameplay are stunning, and we have every intention of bringing those core pillars to our book because this is a great opportunity to expand on the world they’ve created, and build something new and interesting for comics fans.”

PROTOTYPE delivers a fresh take on open-world games, with key features separating the game from the rest of the pack, including the anti-hero main character Alex Mercer and his deadly shape-shifting abilities, a stunning representation of New York City circa 2008 as the backdrop, and ‘Deceive or Destroy’ gameplay allowing players the choice to either blend in with the population or fully unleash Alex’s deadly powers. With Radical Entertainment behind the wheel using their innovative ‘Titanium’ game engine, and touting a catalog of successful titles including the highly acclaimed The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Simpsons Hit & Run and others, PROTOTYPE is aligned to be the ground-breaking open-world/action experience gamers have been waiting for.

PROTOTYPE is planned to release this fall for next-gen console systems and the PC, and is currently rated “RP” (Rating Pending) by the ESRB. For more information on PROTOTYPE, be sure to visit the official game website located at www.prototypegame.com. Read more...
