The battle between creativity and the Void continues in Kill Audio #4. As with the other installments, Sanchez and Echert have crafted a story that is both interesting and a great commentary on the struggle between the status quo and artists.
In this issue we find that Beaver has received a mysterious demo for his record label (where he’s trying to discover the next Zeppelin). The record has quite an effect on him, but sounds like noise to DJ. (If you read issue 3, you’ve seen this record being created.)
Meanwhile, Kill Audio and friends have ventured to Bitches’ Brew, the jazz club in Sight and Sound in hopes of discovering the whereabouts of the Father of Jazz. KA is reunited with an old flame, leading to some great conversation. Beav brings his discovery to the club via boombox, setting some great plan in motion. As this is happening, two ZZ Top lookalikes bust into the bar looking for Jazz (under suspicion that he had a hand in taking their Mama). We meet a group of girls looking to make it big (which includes some great commentary on baristas and art). And the issue ends with a disappearance that greatly affects KA.
All in all I’d say this issue proves that Sanchez’s writing gets better with each issue. Just like each of the other issues, it’s got me thinking about music and art in general, and how I know people in real life that fit the personalities of the Void—people who would destroy art and creativity in the name of order and efficiency. In short, if you haven’t read this series from the beginning, I implore you to seek out the first three issues before this issue hits the stands on Wednesday and see what all the fuss is about.

The critics agree - Buck Rogers isn't just the future…it's the future told right!
"I could recommend Buck Rogers because of its artwork. Carlos Rafael and Carlos Lopez illustrate some sweet science fiction that pays homage to the old while banking on the new. In addition to the special effects, they illustrate an attractive and comprehensible visual narrative, and a healthy cast that exemplifies dynamic design and anatomy. I could recommend the book because of Scott Beatty's smart plotting that makes use of historical Buck Rogers attributes and the amusing antics of con artists Ardala and Kane. I could further recommend the title because of Beatty's ear for natural-sounding dialogue. Instead, I'm recommending the book because of its finale. The end to the story characterizes Buck Rogers as a humane individual that lives in the twenty-first century but always sported future ideals. It's because of these actions Buck Rogers earns five bullets." - Ray Tate, Comics Bulletin
"Carlos Rafael delivers a magnificent set of visuals to accompany the story for this first issue from Dynamite Entertainment. Rafael takes the fantastic imagery of yesteryear (with the ray guns that look like a modified bike horn) and blends in some modern (and post-modern) sensibilities. There's no reason for the futuristic costumes to be ornate or garish just because they can be, so Rafael decides to make them functional and clean. This look is accentuated by the strong palette of Carlos Lopez, who manages to make the black tones on the printed page achieve a richer, deeper black beyond 100% K." - Doug Zawisza, Comic Book Resources
"Digging up old properties and dusting them off can be tricky. Too often the property is mired in past continuity thanks to estates and creators, causing the property to fade away, never to be heard from again. Dynamite has had a good record as of late with properties like Zorro, The Lone Ranger, and The Man With No Name, and after reading this first issue, it looks like the company is going to do the same thing with Buck Rogers. If you hadn't planned on picking up this issue, I say grab it now." - Stephen Schleicher, Major Spoilers
