The Hulk’s Most Incredible Collections!
“THE ROBERTS” CONTINUES THE TALE OF TWO OF AMERICA’S MOST NOTORIOUS SERIAL MURDERERS!
The Boston Strangler and Zodiac Killer are alive and well, living in a retirement community among the old and dying.
For decades, the identities of the Boston Strangler and the Zodiac Killer have been shrouded in mystery. But this August, Image Comics/Shadowline reveals not only the identities of these two prolific killers, but also how they’re spending their golden years of life. THE ROBERTS hits store shelves courtesy of artist Erik Rose and writer Wayne Chinsang.
"I admit, I've always had a morbid fascination with serial murderers," said writer Wayne Chinsang, also known to the world by his real name, Justin Shady. “When Denis Rader (BTK) finally got caught in 2005 I remember thinking, ‘What if this guy had never been caught? What would he be like as an eighty-year-old man? Or as a grandfather? How long could someone like him go on living a lie, trying to blend in when he so clearly doesn’t?’ Those thoughts were the start of THE ROBERTS.”
But instead of BTK, Chinsang chose two murderers who many believe were never caught: the Boston Strangler and the Zodiac Killer. In THE ROBERTS, the killers find themselves immersed in a world of bingo tournaments and social tea hours as they trade "war stories" about what they refer to as the “Golden Age” of mass murder. But camaraderie can also have a dark side as both men still crave the one thing they feel they’ve missed out on: infamy.
THE ROBERTS #1, a two-issue, 48-page, black-and-white mini-series for $5.99, will be in stores August 6th.

New Gods Action Figures Review
DC Direct’s New Gods figures, based on Jack Kirby’s art, came out the beginning of May.
The assortment includes Mister Miracle, Lightray, Orion, and Darkseid.
MISTER MIRACLE
SCULPT: This is my personal favorite. The sculpt really looks like Kirby’s art. The ridges in the body help add shade & truly give the figure life. The flowing of the cape is a great touch.
PAINT: There is no paint rub or bleed. It does seem like DC Direct did have an issue with yellow paint. There are some point where you can see the color underneath the yellow.
ARTICULATION: Like all the figures in this series, Mister Miracle has 11 points of articulation. What’s also nice is the cape is made of a very flexible plastic, so it doesn’t hinder the movement.
SCALE: Mister Miracle stands at 6 ¾”.
ACCESSORIES: Mister Miracle comes with a stand which I personally think is cool. It kind of looks like a boom tube, complete with Kirby dots.
He also comes with a Mother Box, like all the figures in this line. What bugs me about this is none of the figures can hold the Mother Box, so what is the point?
LIGHTRAY
SCULPT: Again, another great sculpt, though there’s something about the nose that bugs me.
PAINT: There’s some paint bleed around the shorts, but other than that, no other issues. I love the fact DCD used a pearl white paint instead of regular white. It really makes Lightray pop.
ARTICULATION: Like all the figures in this series, Lightray has 11 points of articulation.
SCALE: Lightray stands at 6 ¾”.
ACCESSORIES: Lightray comes with a stand & Mother Box.
ORION
SCULPT: Again, another great sculpt. Not a big fan of the open mouth. I would have had him angry or moody.
PAINT: Again, there’s some paint bleed around the shorts, but other than that, no other issues. Especially no bleed around the helmet.
ARTICULATION: Like all the figures in this series, Orion has 11 points of articulation.
SCALE: Orion stands at 7”.
ACCESSORIES: Lightray comes with a stand & Mother Box. He also comes with a monster head. It looks a too large on his body
DARKSEID
SCULPT: After the horrible Michael Turner version of him, we finally get a great version of Darkseid. The sculpt is just great
PAINT: There is a major issue with the paint job on Darkseid. While is head is a grey, rock-like paint, for some reason the arms & legs are purple. I don’t know if it’s mine or if they were all like this, but this really is disappointing.
ARTICULATION: Like all the figures in this series, Darkseid has 11 points of articulation. His skirt is felxible, so it doesn't hinder the legs from bending.
SCALE: Darkseid stands at 7 ½”
ACCESSORIES: Darkseid comes with a stand & Mother Box. He also comes with some type of torture glove. Really cool.
OVERALL: This is a great series and a must for any Kirby or New God fan. DCD is planning a second series with Big Barda, Mentron, Kalibak, and Superman? WHY!! But I’ll still pick that up as well.

Larry Marder's Beanworld returns for a whole new generation!
Dark Horse Comics proudly announces the arrival of a most peculiar graphic novel experience -- Larry Marder's Beanworld!
Beanworld has captivated readers from grade school to grad school since its first publication as a series of comic books in the 1980s. Starting in early 2009, Dark Horse will present Beanworld as a series of affordable graphic novels collecting all existing Beanworld stories, with new material to follow in the same format, beginning with the all new graphic novel Remember Here When You Are There! To whet the appetite of new and loyal fans alike, Dark Horse will also release an all new Beanworld webcomic this Fall, with a full color Beanworld comic book to follow in time for the holidays!
Series creator Larry Marder explains, "Beanworld is about the affinity of life. It's like A Bugs Life meets Mutts, as told by Dr. Seuss & Joseph Campbell. It's a weird fantasy dimension that operates under its own rules and laws, but also reflects deep truths about our world in doing so. All the characters, whether they are friends or adversaries, understand that ultimately they depend on each other for survival. Beanworld isn't a place, it's a process, and I can't wait to share that process with a new generation of readers!"
"I couldn't be happier to welcome Larry Marder's wonderful stories home here at Dark Horse! I've always felt this is where they belonged, and I'm thrilled to be bringing them to today's readers," says Dark Horse President, Mike Richardson.
"Wahoolazuma! Larry Marder's personal Look-See Show is back on the boards! Beanworld is simply a joyous experience," said editor Diana Schutz, "total eye-candy, and it's good for you, too!"
"When Beanworld was first published, many people said it was ahead of its time," Marder says. "Looking at today's world raised on Pixar, Cartoon Network, and manga, I think it's fair to say that Beanworld's time has come. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team at Dark Horse to introduce the Beanworld to this comics-literate world!"
Look for Beanworld adventures, new and old, in the coming year!

A must-have companion piece for the wheels-a-screamin’, fist-a-pumpin’, rock and roll set
From the darkest depths of artistic angst, from the steaming pits of punk-rock putrescence, from the grinding gears of the Kustom Kulture Krypt comes The Workshop of Filthy Creation: The Art of Johnny Ace and Kali Verra. Johnny Ace started his career as an official artist for the late and great Ed “Big Daddy” Roth—custom car builder extraordinaire and creator of the hot-rod-culture icon Rat Fink. From his days as an artist for Roth’s studio, veering through the birth of punk poster art, and now surfing on the cutting edge of lowbrow art and the new Kustom Kulture explosion, Johnny Ace and his studio cohort, Kali Verra, have taken art by the throat and taught it a lesson it'll never forget! Eye-wrecking posters, Fink-tastic sculptures, voodoo pin striping, and every manner of doodad, gimcrack, and unholy talisman imaginable are on display in this deluxe, full-color hardback collection. Featuring posters for The Cramps, Electric Frankenstein, Dick Dale, and many more, The Workshop of Filthy Creation proves to be quite the treat for greasers, gearheads, and guitar heroes alike. So adjust the seat, crank the radio, gun the engine, and get ready to blow the doors off the art world as you know it!
“Far from being a dilettante artist who tries on a Rat Fink style like some poofter with the latest fashions, only to discard them when the party’s over, Johnny Ace is a straight-shot of the real stuff, off the cuff and garage-tuff . . .”
—The Pizz
The Workshop of Filthy Creation features 116 full-color pages of illustrations, sculptures, photos, and rock posters that serve as a historical look at one of the most influential art movements from the rubber-burnin’, rock and roll world of Kustom Kulture. Workshop of Filthy Creation will be available on July 16, 2008, for a retail price of $19.95.

JOHN WRITES: Hullo guys I have just finished reading issue 17 of THE BOYS - how much better can this comic possibly get! It would have to be in the top tier of any comic being published today! What a combination, Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson are sheer magic! Tell me when are THE BOYS going to cut loose on THE SEVEN? Ilive for the moment when Butcher will smack out Homelander, when the Female rips The Deep out of his diving suit and gives him a good going over and when The Frenchman smacks Jack from Jupiter's arrogant dial! Keep up the fantastic work you guys!
This is the space in our weekly emails for the obligatory "I love the Boys" letter… we have enough of these to fill approximately the next 50 years… easy.
CHRIS WRITES: It's now official, I'm no longer the annoying kid at the local comic book stores thanks to THE MAN WITH NO NAME #1. For years I've been asking 'do they have any TMWNN comics?' and all I ever heard was "no"! I thought I was the only one who would ever wanna read such a book, so a few years back I even drew a few pages of this bounty hunter just to amuse myself, but apparently I was wrong. A few months back I thumbed through a Previews and lo and behold my prayers were answered. Well hopefully let me be the first to tell ya, the wait was well worth it. The panels of the book and plot had me so intrigued that even Sergio Leone would be pleased. For years I wondered how TMWNN comics would begin if a comic was ever made based on the movies, and you guys fired a shot right b! etween the eyes. It was awesome to see the book begin where The Good The Bad And The Ugly movie left off. Now my only question is where is Tuco? And is he the Bad? And if he is, who's the Uglier?
We came up with the "uglier" subtitle here in the offices, more as a way to connect the titling to the series… but it has no direct connection to Gage's plots or scripts… as far as Tuco, keep reading!
DYNAMITE IN THE NEWS:
AVENGERS/INVADERS #1 (Best Shots@Newsarama): "The first issue of Avengers/Invaders, in stores tomorrow, is a great-looking affair, but I was also struck by how much fun the story was. Granted, a goodly portion of that is because the creators really let Spider-Man rip when the story moves to the present, but there's a continuous vibe of "good-time Marvel" that runs throughout. True, the WW2 sequences are violent in the manner to which we've become accustomed in the wake of Spielberg and Ambrose, but those scenes have a kind of majesty interwoven into them. The creators really want you to appreciate how "larger than life" the Invaders would have been at the time."
AVENGERS/INVADERS #1 (Comics Bulletin): "Sadowski keeps Spidey in perpetual motion, just how one imagines the character. He takes full advantage of Spidey's powers to choose some odd angles to plant his 'camera'. The technique significantly energizes the book. As a result, this is the most fun I've had reading a Spider-Man scenario in a long time. Incidentally, the enjoyment is completely independent of whether or not the wall-crawler is married to Mary Jane. So Brand New Day wasn't actually necessary, just really good writers and artists instead. Amazing."
MAN WITH NO NAME #1 (Comics Bulletin): "I think this series has a great deal of potential, especially since I firmly believe the Western genre is on the verge of a rebirth. Gage has an excellent grasp on the character, and I think he understands there is really no place to put his own personal stamp on the character. This is a character deeply rooted in Americana and in cinema, and based on this first issue Gage seems to truly understand the character and his role in popular culture. This series does need to stay away from becoming too much of a stock Western that features a classic character but also needs to stay 100% true to the source material. Dias and Gage seem to have a firm grasp on this, and I am really looking forward to the continuation of this series."
PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #3 (Best Shots@Newsarama): "The art is typically great, and while the story is still a little chaotic, the scope is allowing it to breathe."
SPOTLIGHT: AVENGERS/INVADERS #1 (WizardUniverse): http://www.wizarduniverse.com/050908invade.html
SPOTLIGHT: THE BOYS (WizardUniverse): http://www.wizarduniverse.com/050808boys.html
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: ORIGINS #5 (WizardUniverse): "Throw in Lau's manga-esque art, which I think works great in the contexts of adapting a sci-fi series, and this Origins storyline looks to be a frakking good companion to the TV series."
THE BOYS #18 (WizardUniverse): "Robertson's expressive artwork really elevates this series the way Steve Dillon did for Preacher, and his characters' acting-even the hamster gets a few hysterical close-ups-comes up aces."
