The Complete Rocketeer By Dave Stevens Coming From IDW

Two Versions, Including A Deluxe Edition Featuring Many Never-Before-Seen Images

IDW Publishing is proud to announce the upcoming release of The Complete Rocketeer by Dave Stevens, collecting the classic series in its entirety for the first time ever.

After more than a decade out of print, The Rocketeer makes a triumphant return to stores this October with a comprehensive hardcover edition featuring artwork digitally re-mastered from Stevens' own lovingly maintained collection of originals, and all-new coloring by Laura Martin, the Eisner-Award-winning colorist handpicked by Stevens himself.

The Rocketeer, a rollicking tribute to pulp novels and Saturday morning matinee serials, follows the high-flying adventures of stunt pilot Cliff Secord and his girlfriend Betty, after Cliff finds a mysterious jet pack and takes to the sky. The graphic novel went on to become a much-loved major motion picture directed by Joe Johnston.

In addition to the mass-market hardcover, a very special deluxe edition is planned. Presented in a larger format, the deluxe edition will be filled with behind-the-scenes material, a treasure of additional pages featuring previously unpublished Rocketeer designs, preliminaries, and sketches by Dave Stevens, many taken from his personal sketchbooks.

"It is an honor to work on The Rocketeer," said IDW Special Projects editor Scott Dunbier, "I've been a fan of Dave Stevens and The Rocketeer since I first read it in the early 80s. It was a dream of Dave's to see his creation return to the shelves in a complete collection. We are dedicated to making this the definitive edition, a book Dave would have been proud of." This October The Rocketeer will fly once more.

Praise keeps piling up for 'Zombies That Ate the World'!

Readers can't get enough of Guy Davis and Jerry Frissen's riotous zombie series The Zombies That Ate the World! DDP's Humanoids titles are still setting the racks on fire, and the latest praise comes from the site Hypergeek , who says:

"The Zombies That Ate the World is a fantastically unique approach to the classic zombie tale. The book is part homage to the genre, part parody...the story was hilariously entertaining, and the artwork was top notch through-out."

Stay tuned for more Zombies, and watch out for I Am Legion #2, which lands on shelves this week along with the first issue of Jason M. Burns' all new Chucky series!

When This Baby Hits 88 mph, We’re Going to See Some Serious Sh*t

I honestly can’t wait for this one. It seems like we have been developing it forever.

The 1/15th scale Back to the Future DeLorean Time machine is almost here. This baby has it all. The doors open, the hood opens, it has lights, it even has sound effects! This might be the coolest version of this iconic movie car ever. If this had been out when I was 12 I definitely would have made my parents buy it for me. As soon as I get this it will be front and center in my collection. You best believe that!

Mattel - Update On Facebook

Hey gang,

Been a while since I rattled off a info block or two, and now that we are hitting a weekend, wanted to take the chance to update everyone with the latest.

DCUC Wave 7B (with Booster, Beetle and Ocean Camo Aquaman) are now shipping. To complete your DCUC collection and finish off the Atom Smasher Wave, be sure to pick up the latest figs at your local toy re-seller.

On that note, we are indeed looking to bring DCUC retail figures onto Mattycollector, possibly as soon as later this spring/early summer. We are working on this, stand by while we worked out the kinks.

JLU Wave 3 should be out in about 2-3 weeks. It was supposed to ship in Jan, but what almost seems like an annual event, we needed to switch vendors again. Not our favorite option since it delayed the product by 2 months, but ideally will help to continually improve the product. The Cheetah and Batman Beyond 3 packs as well as single of Booster, Parasite and the rest will be out very soon.

Infinite Heros is also shipping strong. Check out Wal-Marts for some of the latest figures since they just completed an order! And don't forget to save your AntiMonitor points for SDCC 2009!

In Masters of the Universe World we are taking measures to increase production of future figures. We are hoping this can start with Mer-Man, although if it does, likely we will get him in two shipments. Meaning we may sell out right away but get in more in a week or so.

As for Faker, he goes on sale March 16 (the 15th is a weekend). And because we did pre sell him at NYCC, we are going to change the limit to 4 per person for this sale only. (this is the same limit as at the convention).

We know there has been a lot of talk online about whether limits are good low or high based on people buying together to save shipping vs. "scalpers" on the second market.

We've looked at the sales and honestly, there are very few people buying 10 of each figure. Very few. The overwhelming majority buy 1 with 2 of each following up. After that the numbers tale off all the way to 10. Stratos and the Adam Strange pack are selling out because individual fans are buying them. If we saw a huge overwhelming number of people buying 10, we would take measures. But most people buying 10 are also outside the US, so it is likely these are indeed fans buying together to save on shipping. Sure we know some people sell them on the second market, but with numbers of people buying just 1 so high it seems fair to keep the 10 option open to help those who want to save on shipping. Plus we announce sale dates three months in advance. So if you want an upcoming figure, you'll know when to come online!

Speaking of sales outside the US, Germany takes the medal on that one. Although they are the largest fan base outside the US, we're not seeing the numbers yet to justify opening a second distribution center. We will keep working with overseas fans all over the world, and if we are indeed doing high enough sales in any one area we will look at finding a way to distribute there directly.

Lastly, we know from our experience at NYCC that a lot of fans don't yet know about MattyCollector.com. We are 100% open to fan suggestions of how to get the word out. Best bet would be to start to thread on one of the fan sites. I've got Toy Guru checking in on those to see what fans say about spreading the word!

Other than that, keep letting us know what you want to see on the site. We are working hard on the brand pages and those should be complete soon. And don't forget to support the product! Your purchase is a "vote" for continued offerings in each line.

Oh, and as always, if you need to reach customer service, the number is 1 877 GO MATTY, We can't answer customer service questions on Facebook!

See you in the toy aisles! (and on MattyCollector.com!)

Mike Norton is an American comic book artist, notable for his work on Runaways and Gravity. He took over pencil duties on Green Arrow/Black Canary from issue 7, worked on several issues of Countdown to Final Crisis, illustrated a fill-in issue of Blue Beetle #26 and is contributing to the backup stories in DC's upcoming weekly series, Trinity.

To me, my greatest achievement in comics is actually making a living doing comics. That's pretty great to me.

2) Who was your favorite writer or artist that you worked with & why?

That's a really tough one. I'd have to say I've had the most fun with Sean McKeever and Gail Simone.

3) What character you have never worked .., would you like to do & why?

Lots of characters that I love and would work on. Wildcat, Creeper, Power Man and Iron Fist. My favorite of all time would be Blue Beetle.

4) Who are your influences?

John Byrne, John Romita Sr. & Jr., Ross Andru, too many others to list.

5) What hero or villain would you like to change if you could and why?

Dunno... I kinda like everybody how they are! :)

Marvel's New Policy on Open Submissions

Due to an unprecedented number of unsolicited art and writing submissions, Marvel has altered its open submissions policy effective immediately. Marvel has remained the only major publisher to continue accepting open submissions, however that practice has been halted as we review our strategies for accepting future submissions.

Marvel has a proven track record of attracting new and emerging talent and does not plan on ending those efforts in any way.

"If you look at our track record over the last 18 months, I think you'll find the names of more new writers and artists in Marvel books than ever before. Maybe more than at any other major comic book publisher, as a matter of fact," says Marvel Talent Liaison C.B. Cebulski. "We pride ourselves on finding new voices and artistic styles to help us shape the Marvel Universe in original and exciting ways. And while the hunt for new artistic resources to help us ever expand the Marvel mythos will continue, we'll just be going about it in different ways. We've examined all our past practices concerning talent recruitment and it quickly became clear that more 'reactive' methods such as open submissions were the least effective ways to open the Marvel door for up-and-comers. So instead we'll be continuing with the more 'proactive' methods of artist and writer discovery that we've found so successful of late, including some soon-to-be-announced new outlets."

While the open submissions policy has ceased, Marvel will continue its active recruitment of artists through its Talent Management department. Artists are also encouraged to bring portfolios for review to the major conventions at which Marvel will have a presence this year.

Talent Coordinator for Marvel, Chris Allo adds, "In regards to finding new artists, we in the Talent Management department will still continue to look at online websites such as Deviant Art, Comic Art Community, as well as comic art blogs, and other related sites. Online comics are rapidly becoming a source for scouting as well. And, of course, we will still go to the comic book stores on Wednesdays and see what new artists are out there working for other companies and on independent books."

With the successful discovery and publishing of writers in the fields of comics as well as TV, film and literature, Marvel will continue to search out new voices in all published fields, as we have for the past number of years.

As new media and means of publishing comics on the web as well as small and independent press, we encourage all new creators to continue honing their craft by using all of the tools available during this time. Marvel will be announcing a new submissions policy in the near future.
