Marvel Studios Strengthens Self-Produced Film Release Schedule Through 2012

Marvel Studios presents a continuous story arc on the Road to The Avengers with new release dates for THOR (June 17, 2011), CAPTAIN AMERICA (July 22, 2011) and THE AVENGERS (May 4, 2012), as well as Sony Pictures Entertainment to launch Summer 2011 with the release of SPIDER-MAN 4 (May 6, 2011).

Paving the way for the production and release of its multi-character Super Hero film, THE AVENGERS, Marvel Entertainment, Inc., announced an adjusted release pipeline for its self-produced feature film properties that reflects the first time individual Super Hero characters and story arcs will be inter-woven and culminate in a multi-character motion picture. Separately, Marvel Studios confirmed today that Sony Pictures Entertainment will release SPIDER-MAN 4 on May 6, 2011. Additionally, Marvel Studios has revised the release dates for THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA as part of its release strategy for an uninterrupted road to THE AVENGERS, now debuting May 4, 2012.

A Marvel character-based film will now launch the summer box office season for three years in a row, from 2010 through 2012.

"This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel's movie debut dates, big screen character introductions and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character THE AVENGERS film in 2012," said David Maisel, Chairman, Marvel Studios.

Sony Pictures' and Marvel Studios' SPIDER-MAN 4 is slated for May 6, 2011. To date, all three motion pictures in the phenomenally successful SPIDER-MAN franchise have generated nearly $2.5 billion worldwide theatrically.
Below is Marvel Studios' 2010-2012 updated release schedule for its slate of self-produced and financed feature films:

Top Cow Welcomes Nelson Blake II to the Pit

Top Cow Productions, Inc. proudly announced today that newcomer artist Nelson Blake II (Broken Trinity: Witchblade, GI Joe: Reloaded) will draw The Darkness #78. The issue, with is scheduled for a June 2009 release, will explore what happens when current Darkness bearer Jackie Estacado becomes fed up with the mysterious Sovereign, who has kept Jackie on a wild goose chase to recover his full power for the past few issues.

The issue is written by Phil Hester who has been the regular writer for The Darkness since the series was relaunched in 2007. Artist Michael Avon Oeming (The Darkness: Lodbroks Hand, Powers) provides the cover for the issue.

Nelson Blake II is the most recent addition to the stable of in-house artists working at Top Cow Productions, Inc. under the tutelage of CEO and founder Marc Silvestri. Under Silvestris guidance, Top Cow has brought in and trained many of the top artists working in comics including Dave Finch and Michael Turner. Blake, who was discovered during a New York Comic Con portfolio review by Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik and Editor Rob Levin, first had his artwork featured in Broken Trinity: Witchblade for Top Cow. With The Darkness #78, Blake will present his stylistic rendering of fan-favorite character, Jackie Estacado.

On working on The Darkness #78, Blake states, Phil Hester is a rare breed of
storyteller in that he gets both the literary and visual side of the medium. You combine that with the fact that he absolutely gets the Darkness and Jackies universe and you have a dream project that any artist would be lucky to work on. In the issue we did together, he managed to stuff it full of action, and deliver on character. An absolute blast to draw.

Nelson has a great sense of motion and a clean line that reminds me of Mike Choi, commented Top Cow Publisher, Filip Sablik, Watching his pages roll in on The Darkness has been a blast.
