BioShock returns with a new game and new figures!
It's 1970, 10 years after the original BioShock. We're back in BioShock 2 in the dystopian underwater city of Rapture, but now it's controlled by Sophia Lamb, whose message of collective conscious is spread by a priest-turned-cult-leader. Additionally, to maintain order in the city, Lamb has created an army of Big Daddy-like enforcers called Big Sisters and sent them to abduct little girls from towns on the Atlantic Coast and bring them back to Rapture to create new Little Sisters.
Suddenly, the prototype Big Daddy from the original production line reactivates with no recollection of what's happened in the past 10 years. After scouring the city in a vain attempt to find the Little Sister he was originally paired with, he realizes Sophia Lamb's evil plan and seeks to overthrow Lamb and her army of Big Sisters.
BioShock 2 doesn't release until next year, but NECA has already begun celebrating the sequel to the original 2K Games smash with a sneak preview deluxe figure of the Big Daddy Bouncer, which is in stores now! Our BioShock 2 line officially kicks off in January with the Series 1 assortment:
Subject Delta (formerly the Big Daddy player) is highly detailed and over 7" tall, has removable hoses and backpack tanks, an interchangeable drill arm, and ball joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles.
Big Sister is of similarly massive 7"-plus proportion and detail. She has a removable backpack with a cage basket just the right size for capturing a Little Sister and ball joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees ankles and ab crunch.
Finally, Little Sister has an ADAM syringe and ball jointed neck and shoulders, hinged elbows and knees and a v-crotch. And yes, she does actually fit in Big Sister's basket.
There will be a Toys R Us exclusive two-pack with Big Sister and Little Sister packaged together, and even more BioShock 2 announcements to follow, including details on the EVE Hypo light-up replica and the Big Daddy plush doll, as seen on the Xbox Live Marketplace and in the BioShock 2 ad campaign!
Of course, keep it tuned to necaonline.com and our Amazon storefront for more on BioShock 2 and other lines from your favorite games and movies.

November’s entry to the Masters of the Universe Classics toyline was the much-anticipated Scareglow, who sold out in a matter of hours on the mattycollector.com online store. Assuming he was produced in the same numbers, Scareglow even outsold last month’s very popular Teela figure. This figure marks the first time Scareglow has seen a toy release since his initial release at the tail end of the MOTU series in the 1980’s.
Since he was released so late in the original line, Scareglow had never made any appearances in the Filmation cartoon and his sole appearances in classic Masters of the Universe media were in a couple of minicomics releases. He also never managed to make it into the MYP cartoon and his sole appearance in the 200X continuity was in a special benefit comic. Due to his lack of appearances and his confusing classic designation as “The Evil Ghost of Skeletor,” and his resemblance to the Overlord of Evil, there have been years of confusion as to who or what Scareglow was. He was often speculated as being Skeletor’s ghost from the future. This new Classics continuity represents a chance to finally set the record straight on Scareglow and perhaps reveal some interesting connection to Skeletor. Was he, in fact, the Demo Man that was mentioned in Skeletor’s bio, or some by-product of that union? But instead we have an all new bio that is unconnected to Skeletor. Scareglow is Karak Nul, a bounty hunter that had attempted to break into Castle Grayskull and was cursed for his trespass and banished to a distant dimension forever chained to his crimes. His ghostly form is Scareglow, who has been recruited into Skeletor’s crew.
As far as the actual figure itself, there is a definite sense of déjà -vu here. I understand that one of the realities of this line is that there is going to be significant parts sharing but I can’t overstate how tired I am of seeing the Skeletor limbs recycled over and over again. Let’s take a look at this: February, Skeletor. April, Mer-Man. May, Zodac. September, Webstor. And now, in November, Scareglow. So for almost half of this year, we’ve gotten figures with the same very distinctive, very silly monster feet and scalloped forearms. Let me say again, just because, this was the way it was done in the ‘80’s doesn’t mean it has to be done exactly the same in the Classics line.
The only newly sculpted body piece on Scareglow is the head, which is very much the highlight of this figure. It is much more scary and evil-looking than the Skeletor head and I’m sure we will see a lot of people customizing their Skeletors with this new piece. The left hand is sculpted open like Skeletor but my copy’s hand is actually so open that he can barely hold his reliquary.
The paint on Scareglow is a kind of love it or hate it proposition. If you buy into the gimmick of glow-in-the-dark bones painted onto a muscular body then you will like it. Otherwise, it is kind of silly looking (his spinal cord is painted onto his abdomen after all and what does he need to wear a loincloth for anyway?) It really only kind of works if you have the lights off and are looking at him head-on, otherwise it looks like a Halloween costume. Unfortunately, much of the detail painted on the head in SDCC prototype, as been removed and the final figure is rather stark and white looking. This makes him a little more cartoony and less frightening than how we first saw him.
As far as accessories go, Scareglow has a lot to offer. First, is his cape, which is the nicest part of the figure after the head. The cape is sculpted and painted to look thinner and worn toward the bottom. The detail on it is quite nice and it actually looks like fabric. He also comes with a big halberd, his “Scythe of Doom,” which also glows in the dark and I’m sure we’ll be seeing recolored in a future accessory pack. His other accessory is the curious “Grayskull Reliquary,” a minature Castle Grayskull that can be chained to his arm and which opens to reveal a small key. This is a nifty little piece which ties into the original bio that Mattel has written.
Really, the only way to have done this character justice would have been a translucent figure with glow-in-the-dark embedded bones (which was never going to happen). Despite my dislike of the basic premise of the paint scheme and the lack of detail on the head of the final figure, there is a lot to like about Scareglow. He’s got a good amount of interesting accessories and even an “action feature.” One of the best things about him was that he was made at all and fairly early in the line at that. Once again it shows that Mattel and the Four Horsemen are digging deep into the lore of Masters of the Universe and giving us some of the rarer and obscure characters beyond just the expected core characters. In the case of Scareglow, they have given us a fan-favorite who hasn’t been produced as a toy in over twenty years.

The popular novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick in graphic form.
The story is quite good. A dystopian earth, a sedated public, and the pursuit of dangerous, apathetic humanoids by bounty hunters, (none of which is addressed in this particular issue of the series, but any expedition in to this world is interesting enough).
The art is fair. The coloring is subtle, and fitting most of the time, and the drawing is good if a bit over-exaggerated. The series is just the unabridged novel set to illustrations of nearly every image conjured in the text. Because of this, the story does not progress very far through the course of an issue.
Frankly, the novel does not need the aid of comic book art to be enjoyed. I would not recommend reading it in this form. However, I would not mind taking a look at a few of the issues of this series featuring my favorite parts from the book.

This issue of Blackest Night appears to be the best one yet.
In it we see a member from each colored corps banding together to build a group in order to end the Black Lanterns threat with their combined might. The logic behind this being that if white light is the only thing that can put a black lantern down for good, then their combined power will make the whitest of the white light.
Action and adventure ensue with a surprise ender that effects all the big hero players of the DCU.

IMAGE UNITED, the Image Comics crossover of the century, sells out at a distribution-level despite significant overprint!
IMAGE UNITED, the six-part crossover featuring Image Founders Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri and Jim Valentino, made its debut today with a near-immediate sellout at the distribution-level.
"As soon as I held IMAGE UNITED in my hand, I just knew these would go," said Marc Nathan, owner of Reisterstown, MD's Cards Comics & Collectibles and Promoter of the Baltimore Comic Con. "You just knew the covers were going to go. It was perfectly smart on Image's part to put them out this weekend - the best shopping week of the year. Everyone is coming to this weekend to shop, so you know people will be coming back for #2."
IMAGE UNITED is a six-part crossover encompassing the entire Image superhero universe and features each Image founder illustrating their own characters. Since its announcement, the crossover has garnered headlines from the New York Times, USAToday and other massive media outlets with its once-in-a-lifetime approach to the superhero crossover. Despite a significant overprint, the first issue managed to sell out at a distribution-level in less than twelve hours. A new printing will be released to coincide with the second issue and features a cover by SPAWN and HAUNT creator Todd McFarlane.
IMAGE UNITED writer Robert Kirkman said, "With an overprint this substantial, this immediate sellout is a clear indication the founders and their pantheon of characters are as hot as ever. The greatest part about the sell out is this is just the beginning. The best is yet to come."
Added Image Publisher Eric Stephenson: "Working to pull this project together has been an amazing experience for everyone involved, but it's been even more incredible to hear the response we've been getting not only from fans but our partners in the retail community. Everyone's enthusiasm has been extremely gratifying and we can't wait for everyone to see how this whole project unfolds."
IMAGE UNITED #1 2nd Printing, a 32-page full color comic book for $3.99, will be on-sale December 23.
And for those who can't wait for the second printing, a special collector's edition of IMAGE UNITED #1 featuring a gold foil-stamped logo is on sale December 3.

Dan DeCarlo: Jetta
Dan DeCarlo (w) & (a) & (c)
Dan DeCarlo's futuristic curvy teenage girl Jetta zoomed through the future a full decade before Judy Jetson. In the 1950s, the fan favorite artist, beloved for his portrayals of Betty and Veronica, Josie and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, delineated the madcap adventures of Jetta, "Teen-Age Sweetheart of the 21st Century" with obvious delight. The comics, collected for the first time in their entirety and in living color will be accompanied by a revealing introduction by Craig Yoe. There will also be a bevy of rare unpublished original art and photographs. Plus, as a highly desirable bonus, Jetta pinups by top comic book artists and Hollywood animators.

ZACK WHEDON BREATHES NEW LIFE INTO TERMINATOR
DARK HORSE ANNOUNCES CREATIVE TEAM ON HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW SERIES
In 2029, Kyle Reese will be sent to 1984 to stop a T-800 from killing the mother of the resistance, Sarah Conner. But before his future son will send him back in time, Kyle Reese was simply another survivor in a desolate future.
In a brand-new series, Zack Whedon (Dr. Horrible, Deadwood, Fringe, Rubicon) brings his sharp writing skills to one of the most celebrated sci-fi properties in history to tell the story of a man struggling to live in a world with little food, water, or hope.
Never before has the iconic character from James Cameron’s first Terminator film been explored with such depth and humanity. Readers will have the opportunity to follow Kyle Reese and his closest allies as they face insurmountable odds in a world run by cold, calculating machines bent on destroying the last memory of what it means to be a human being.
In a world wrought with Hunter Killer Drones, T-600s, T-800s, H-K’s and a host of other terrifying technology, a small band of friends must find a way to keep the Resistance breathing amidst an eviscerated landscape devoid of nearly all life. Kyle Reese, the father of the future, leads these rebels with only the slightest promise of peace and the most basic of mortal codes – never give up.
The two, three-issue arcs will be drawn by Andy MacDonald (NYC Mech, Punisher War Journal) with covers by renowned illustrator Massimo Carnevale (Y: The Last Man).
“It’s an honor to be a part of the on-going Terminator saga, and to have the talents of Andy MacDonald and Massimo Carnevale helping me in bringing this story to life,” said writer Zack Whedon.
The much-anticipated first issue from the dynamic creative team will be released from Dark Horse Comics in March 2010.
Dark Horse’s successful Termintor Omnibus Vol. 1 & 2 are currently available at a retail price of $24.95.
