Top Cow & DiVide Pictures Partner with CBLDF with exclusive Berserker #1 variant cover!

TOP COW AND DiVIDE TO HELP SUPPORT THE COMIC BOOK LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

BERSERKER #1 IN RETAILER SUPPORT PACK

Top Cow Productions, Inc. proudly announced today that a limited signed variant cover of Berserker #1 will be included in a Retailer Support Pack for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

The Support Pack will be an incentive for retailers who become members of the CBLDF. The publisher is proud to help support the CBLDF, which has fought censorship and protected the First Amendment rights of creators, publishers, and retailers in the comic book industry.

“Top Cow has long supported the mission of the CBLDF and we are thrilled to be able to help the fund in such a direct way,” said Top Cow Publisher, Filip Sablik. “And what better way than by including a title like Berserker, which is definitely going to push the envelope on violence in comics.”

Berserker #1 is the first full-length comic book to be published by Top Cow Productions, Inc. in conjunction with DiVide Pictures, the production company co-owned by Heroes star, Milo Ventimiglia and producer Russ Cundiff. The Berserker #1 limited variant produced for the Retailer Support Pack will be signed by Ventimiglia as well as the creative team of writer Rick Loverd (Friday Night Lights) and artist Jeremy Haun (Chuck, Leading Man) and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The brutal new series offers a blend of Norse mythology with a story of contemporary Americans coming to grip with the animalistic and uncontrollable rage living inside them. Before the formation of the CBLDF in 1986, comics with content similar to Berserker #1 would have been targeted for censorship by various organizations and lobby groups. Despite the neutralizing of the Comics Code, the CBLDF has become more valuable and instrumental in protecting individual creators, publishers, and retailers through First Amendment related lawsuits. The CBLDF is also responsible for organizing fundraisers to aid in financing legal fees that could otherwise debilitate such individuals and small businesses from doing business.

5 Quick Questions with Ron Marz

Ron Marz is an American comic book writer. He is well known for his work on Silver Surfer and Green Lantern, as well as the Marvel vs DC crossover and Batman/Aliens.

While being chiefly responsible for bringing popularity back to Green Lantern and introducing a new generation (and boost in sales) to the series, Marz received criticism from factions of the fandom for his part in turning the character of Hal Jordan into a mass murderer in order to make way for a new Green Lantern character, Kyle Rayner. He returned to the Green Lantern series after an absence to pen the final arc of the book's third volume, then the 12-issue "Ion" maxi-series.

Having been a lifelong fan of the character, Ron was the brain behind Moonstone Books' 2006 Annual featuring The Phantom, and was responsible for getting writers Chuck Dixon, Mike Bullock, Tony Bedard, and Rafael Nieves participate with chapters for the book. Marz has also signed on to write a short story with the character for one of Moonstone's upcoming Phantom prose collections.

At Top Cow he is writing Broken Trinity about Witchblade, The Darkness and Angelus. This led to the announcement at the 2008 Baltimore Comic-Con that he had signed an exclusive contract with Top Cow which will entail three comics a month - two "Top Cow Universe" titles and a creator-owned project.

He agreed to answer 5 Quick Questions

1) What would you say is your greatest achievement in comics?

I've come to realize just being in comics for two decades is something of an achievement. But beyond that, if I had to hang my hat on something, it's that I've been able to do a range of work: super-heroes, fantasy, science-fiction, supernatural police drama, historical fiction. I'm pleased that I've been able to work in so many different genres, and not be type-cast.

2) Who was your favorite writer or artist that you worked with & why?

Narrowing it down to just one person is almost impossible. I got my start in the business collaborating with Jim Starlin. I have a career because Jim started me on this path, so he's at the top of the list. I was lucky enough to work with Jim as both writer and artist in various jobs.

3) What character you have never worked on ... would you like to do & why?

I've been able to write most all of the DC and Marvel characters at one point or another, at least in guest-starring roles, and even non-Big Two choices like Tarzan, Hellboy and the Star Wars characters. I'm really drawn to the archetype characters more than any others -- Batman, Superman, Spider-man.

4) Who are your influences?

Starlin, Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Stephen King, Charles Dickens.

5) What hero or villain would you like to change if you could and why?

I don't really have any interest in changing existing heroes or villains, which probably sounds ironic considering my history with Green Lantern. But those kinds of drastic changes are much more likely to be editorial decisions than those of creators. I'd personally rather find a way to work with what makes a particular character interesting, or just make up a completely new character.

Trapp's Rap - Comic Reviews for April

Action Comics #876 - Good, well written. However, I feel like Nightwing and Flamebird aren't doing so hot right now as far as being replacement protectors. Im not even sure I'm enjoying them being in Action Comics. Maybe they just need to grow on me. Dc will need to convince me that Flamebird and Nightwing are good and strong protectors in Supermans absence.

Superman #687 - I think I like Mon-El and I like how they are integrating him into the city of Metropolis. I think it's good that they are making this not look like an easy thing. Mon-El is really going to have to work at leading the double lifestyle.

Supergirl #40 - This title really is growing on me. The whole story with Superwoman has really been interesting to follow. However, what is starting to annoy me is how much Supergirl is struggling with her identity. It seems like she does more whining than discovering about who she is. But I am excited to see how they make this all work out with Major Lane being Superwoman!

Detective Comics #853 - If only Neil Gaiman would write for more comics in DC. This was a fantastic way to end Bruce Waynes reign as the Caped Crusader. However, I think it will upset some fans because Gaiman left very very VERY little room for Bruce Wayne to ever return from the dead, seeing as how technically he is not dead, just in another dimension...as a baby (read Final Crisis to understand more.) I don't see Bruce Wayne ever returning as batman. I found this issue very encouraging and happy, the conversation Bruce had with his mother was very heart warming and nuturing, and it's something Bruce Wayne, above all else, needed to help him accept what was happening to him.

Wonder Woman #31 - The story arc "rise of an olympian" is getting stronger and stronger as the story progresses. I had my misgivings about this story arc at first, but it's becoming quite griping and full of angst! I think Wonder Woman fighting Achiles was a stroke of genius. and there are some thing we learn about Genocide that really help to understand what her/his (I cant figure out its it's a male or female...maybe neither!) status is in the story.

Green Lantern #40- All I can say is WOW! This title has been great from issue #1 to issue #40. The way Geoff Johns is handling the story for this whole series has been above and beyond the expectations of most readers. Now with all of the different lantern corps, it'sgetting even more intense. Before Agent orange came along, I didn't think the orange lantern corps would be that great. But wow, Johns knows how to prove me wrong! What Johns is greatest at is his purposefully way of telling a story. The more the story progresses, the more I understand why he is writing the story, that is leading to the blackest night, the way he does. Right now, Green Lantern is without a doubt my favorite comic book title.

Green Lantern Corps #35 - I actually wasn't that impressed with this issue of GL Corps. maybe i'm comparing it to Green Lantern to much but I just didn't think it did that well. I still enjoyed the book, but I felt there was a little too much lingering and drag in this issue writing. however, it is becoming very twisted and disgusting. I would definatly find having my own toungue hanging from my neck disturbing and scaring.

Justice League of America #32 - Dwayne McDuffie just killing the JLA right now. the story is going way down hill. I was excited however to see Starbreaker come back. I hadn't seen him in much of anything since the early 90's....and I was a true kid then! But the way he was brought back an everything encompassing the hidden layer of the trinity just isn't working for me. Ill be glad when McDuffie is off the book.

Justice Society of America #26 - With the Marvel Family finallyat peace, Johns decided (I deduce) that we needed a break from all the drama and gave us a nice, happy story to end the dramatic story arc. I think it was kind of nice to just sit back and see how super heros have fun and enjoy each others company. It was pleasant and funny.

Over all, I can say this month was enjoyable with the titles I read. I'm excited to see hows things pan out! But I've got to find a way to afford it all! May brings Power girl and Blackest night. geez!!!!!

OLYMPUS TO EXPAND ITS PANTHEON OF COMICS RETAILERS!

OLYMPUS TO EXPAND ITS PANTHEON OF COMICS RETAILERS!
New Image series, OLYMPUS, develops all-new retailer outreach program!

OLYMPUS, the upcoming action series of mythological proportions from Image Comics, is looking to reach out to the many comic book retailers supporting the title with an incentive
to boost customer awareness!

"Christian and I have worked hard to interact with as many retailers as we can, and the response has been magnificent and overwhelming," Edmonson said. "Unlike other entertainment mediums, comics does not thrive on the airwaves, but in the comic shops. It is a small-
business driven industry, and that allows us the unique and rewarding opportunity to reach out to shop owners around the country."

Effective immediately, retailers from around the world are invited to send in photos of their employees holding up an ad, poster, catalogue or just about anything relating to OLYMPUS. In return, all participating retailers will have their pictures, anddresses and phone
numbers printed in an upcoming issue! Photos can be sent to
olympuscomic@gmail.com. Entries will also be posted at http://olympuscomic.blogspot.com.Edmonson will also be doing a number of in-store appearances to support both the book and the program, starting off with Criminal Records in Atlanta, GA on the first issue's day of release, May 20th from 4-7 PM.

OLYMPUS follows Hellenic myth of Pollux and Castor, two brothers who have been granted immortality by Zeus so that they can protect and serve mankind. Yet, after 3000 years, the gods have grown distant and disinterested, but the brothers are still bound to continue in their
duty, no matter the consequences.

OLYMPUS #1 (MAR092402), a 32-page full-color mini-series for $3.50, will be in stores May 20th, 2009. For more information on the Criminal Records appearance please see

MARVEL PRESENTS SPECIAL PUNISHER STORY IN COLLABORATION WITH EMINEM AND XXL MAGAZINE TO CELEBRATE NEW ALBUM RELAPSE

EMINEM/PUNISHER: KILL YOU

All-new 16-page story to be featured exclusively in the June issue of XXL magazine and on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited on May 5th.

Marvel Comics has teamed up with Eminem and XXL magazine to celebrate his anticipated upcoming album Relapse with an all-new story featuring the renowned rapper and Marvel’s notorious vigilante, The Punisher, in Eminem/Punisher: Kill You.

Back from a three-year hiatus, Eminem is set to grace two XXL covers posing as The Punisher for the magazine’s June issue on stands May 5, two weeks before his fifth solo album, Relapse, hits stores May 19.

A special collector’s edition, the magazine also includes the first part of an exclusive collaboration between XXL, Shady and Marvel Comics -- Eminem/Punisher: Kill You -- a special edition Punisher comic book starring Eminem and created by Marvel Comics.

This all new story written by Fred Van Lente (Amazing Spider-Man) with art by Salvador Larroca (Invincible Iron Man) takes place in Detroit after Eminem performs on stage and gets involved in a conflict with The Punisher and his old foe Barracuda. The first half of the story will be featured as a bonus eight page special edition comic printed in the June issue of XXL magazine, with the eight page conclusion available exclusively on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited (
www.marvel.com/eminem) for free starting May 5th.

“When we learned that Eminem is a fan and collector of Marvel comics, we could only imagine what would happen if The Punisher and Slim Shady met up in the Marvel Universe,” said Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. “This was a unique partnership and the team had a blast working with Eminem and incorporating the rapper into the Marvel fold.”

For fans of the Punisher, Eminem and those wanting to own a part of the action, visit your local newsstand to purchase the magazine on May 5, 2009 and then be sure to visit
www.marvel.com/eminem to experience the second part of the story.
