FALL OUT BOY'S PETE WENTZ TO CREATE FALL OUT TOY WORKS AT IMAGE COMICS THIS SEPTEMBER!

MTV breaks news of FALL OUT TOY WORKS, the new comic book mini-series from Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz!

Earlier today, MTV broke news of Fall Out Boy vocalist and bassist Pete Wentz teaming up with famed designer Darren Romanelli, Nathan Cabrera, WINTERMEN's Brett Lewis and Imaginary Friends Studio's Sam Basri to create an all-new comic book series with Image Comics debuting this September, FALL OUT TOY WORKS.

"Me and Darren came up with the idea of creating a world around 'Tiffany Blews'," Wentz told MTV News. "It's more than a comic too. In the end, it will be a graphic novel, clothing, web site and possible toys themselves."

FALL OUT TOY WORKS, inspired by the ideas and lyrics of Fall Out Boy, tells the story of a brilliant young robot maker who risks his entire company for his factory's newly produced android named Tiffany as she becomes his greatest passion and potentially his own destruction. FALL OUT TOY WORKS teams Wentz with Darren Romanelli AKA Dr. Romanelli “DRx”, the ground breaking designer behind the reinterpretations of Nike, Looney Tunes and Black Sabbath, and writer Brett Lewis, the acclaimed creator of BULLETPROOF MONK and The Wintermen. Art chores will be handled by Sam Basri of Imaginary Friends Studios, the art studio behind the art for Radical'’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Caliber: First Canon of Justice and Steve Nile'’s City of Dust.

Darren Romanelli added, "Pete had hit me up about designing him some custom gear and we immediately clicked. We've been throwing ideas back and forth for some time and FALL OUT TOY WORKS stemmed from a place of passion and common ground between us. Of course, Fall Out Boy has been a major inspiration, but we're reaching in the larger world of art, fashion and pop culture. We've also brought in my frequent collaborator, Nathan Cabrera, to help conceive the wider world and are thrilled to have a writer of Brett Lewis' status realizing these ideas to their fullest potential with Sam Basri of Imaginary Friends Studios."

FALL OUT TOY WORKS #1, a 32-page full color five-issue comic book for $3.99, will be in stores September 2nd, 2009. For more information, please see http://fallouttoyworks.com/.

I.M.O. Review: Solomon Grundy #4 (DC Comics) By Eddie R.

Lights out.

Solomon Grundy #4 opens with Grundy attacking the home of Molly and Alan Scott. He is on the rampage looking for the Emerald Power Battery of Alan Scott, which contains the Starheart, also known as the Green Flame of Life. From the cover of the issue, one would expect something more grandiose happening. But instead we get a served an even bigger mystery, which makes me wonder how far Grundy’s death grip can reach? And is it so corrupt and poisonous,- that it is really able to snuff out something seemingly omnipotent? If you are an Alan Scott Fan, you will defiantly want to see this for yourself.

After his rampage, Grundy returns to his swamp in order to regenerate. But Grundy is not the same, nor alone. As the Sun rises, the Jekyll and Hyde effect washes over him, reverting Grundy back to Cyrus Gold. Gold realizes he has been wounded in the battle with the Starheart. But he also makes another discovery, which is jackpot in his quest to break the curse set upon him. Also, what has me most interested now is Cyrus hearing a third voice: an Emerald voice. If this is going the way I think it is, those who know the origin of the Starheart, and a certain “prophecy” tied to it, will be able to see how this is all fitting together quite nicely.

Meanwhile, orbiting the Earth right over Slaughter Swamp, a certain villain, who fellow readers of the recent JLA story arc involving Grundy will recognize immediately, manages to release a “gift” which plummets down to Earth. Its mission: Destroy Solomon Grundy. Now this is going to be a fight the readers will want to see.

I must say even though we are over the half way point in this seven part miniseries, I was hoping for more action in this issue. Granted I still believe this story does need to look back before going forward, especially to understand the clues which surround this mystery of who killed Cyrus Gold. But now it feels as if it this writing trick is being used as filler instead of being part of the actual story, and is slowing the flow of the book. Hopefully the next issue will pick up steam again.

Land of the Lost Sleestak 12-Inch Vinyl Bank

Did you know that in the original Land of the Lost series, the Sleestacks were played by at least one sports hero? It's true! Then-future NBA great Bill Laimbeer played one of the creepy, green lizard men while still in high school.

That was nearly 30 years ago. This week, fans may enjoy knowing that Will Ferrel and Danny McBride are going to star in a new Land of the Lost movie! These revised Sleestacks are similar to the TV originals, which were recreated by Funko as the Land of the Lost Sleestak 12-Inch Vinyl Bank. This version isn't so much after Will and Holly as it is after your loose change. Be sure to order one of these neat mean greenies today!

Land of the Lost Sleestak 12-Inch Vinyl Bank Description:
He's hungry for your money. They're some of the most frightening beings from Land of the Lost, but what are these Sleestacks anyway? Bugs? Lizards? Aliens? The world may never know, but you might remember them as the scary green creatures that terrorized Rick, Will, and Holly on Saturday mornings during the 1970s. And this 12-inch tall vinyl figure is easy to identify. He's a Sleestak Bank... and he stands ready to gobble up your hard-earned funds! You'd best feed him, too, for who knows what these terrors are capable of?

Adam's Adventures: The Amazing Spider-Man #596 (Marvel Comics) Review by Adam P.

If any comic deserves to be published three times a month, it's Spider-Man

Sometimes comics can be bogged down by too many intertwining storylines, making you feel empty and unsatisfied. But here we get just enough of each character to feel that we know a bit more about each of them. The connections between the players feel like a well-scripted movie.

Classic Spider-Man baddie Venom gets to put his disgusting tongue to good use in this issue as he attempts to consume a prostitute. Luckily our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man (assisted by my very favourite heroine of all time) get to try and stop him. And that doesn't even account for a third of the action going on in this yarn.

In Amazing Spider-Man #596, there is more than enough eye candy to satisfy the masses. Couple that with press conferences, vaccinations, gravestones, wedding plans, boogers, rat gore, and what looks to be a Charlie Brown doll, the book oozes with life, humanity, emotions and tempers. It's a joy to read and a story that leaves you wanting more. This issue does it all and makes it seem effortless.

Perhaps the most telling sequence is Spider-Man swinging past a burning building lost in thought. His reflections almost make him miss the burning blaze and it comes across as realistic: how many times does the typical human miss the obvious because of preoccupations? It's a fresh breath of air from the rigid formula so many other comics get trapped into: hero faces obvious threat, conflict ensues, and threat is resolved. Peter Parker's life just isn’t that simple.

In contrast, Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers squad provides some welcome comic relief, with their oafishness and bickering. This is exactly how I would see a team of bad guys acting. It's quite interesting to see how their selfishness inhibits their wits.

To me, this issue is a sterling example of everything comics are meant to be: heroes that can be rooted for, villains that are despicable, plots and sub-plots, plans and counter-plans, vivid artwork and clever writing that drives the tale along at an eager clip.

So do yourself a favour and give this title a try.

9/10
